A LITTLE MORE ABOUT JOSEPH CROSKEY
First in the form of a brief bio:
Joseph has dedicated his professional career to public service. He enjoys exploring the art of leadership and strives to inspire others to share their unique gifts with the world. Joseph is a professor at Clarion University and holds a Master’s in Educational Technology Leadership from The George Washington University in Washington D.C. He completed his undergraduate work in Systems Engineering at the United States Military Academy at West Point, NY.
In the Army, Joseph completed one of the military’s premier leadership development programs, Ranger school, and served in Desert Storm as an Infantry Officer. He worked with a chemical company and a software company before finding his calling to serve in higher education. He earned his Ph.D. doing qualitative research on the benefits of mindfulness training for college students from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania. At Clarion University he was elected to serve as Chair of the Faculty Senate (2015-2016). He has been awarded Faculty of the Year (2018), and Clarion University Outstanding Faculty Award (2013).
He has been fortunate to travel to most continents, and in the spring of '05, circumnavigated the globe with Semester at Sea stopping at numerous ports. He has lived in Turkey, Okinawa, and Germany and for several years took students to Amizade service-learning programs in the Navajo Nation, Nicaragua, and Tanzania. He teaches mindfulness to a variety of organizations including the United Nations with the Lululemon sponsored Peace on Purpose program. He wholeheartedly supports the Search Inside Yourself Leadership Institute (SIYLI) mission as a certified teacher, to help develop wise and compassionate leaders in order to create the conditions for world peace. On 10/10/10 he married his sunshine, Kathleen Ellwood. They live at Camp Happy with a delightful dog, Carson, and their adult children visit often. Joseph is an activist and actionist for human flourishing.
